The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has authorized the NLEX Corporation to collect a nominal 2-3% toll increase starting May 18, 2021. This following recent TRB review consistent with regulatory procedures recognizing the continuing investments of the private sector operators.
The adjustment is part of the approved periodic adjustments due in 2012 and 2014, or seven years ago. TRB and NLEX agreed to implement the increase on a staggered basis to cushion the impact of the adjustments.
Taking effect past midnight or 12:01 am on May 18, the increase will be an additional P2 for Class 1 vehicles in the open system, VAT included. For the entire NLEX journey end to end, Class 1 vehicles will pay an additional P6.
The open system, where a flat rate is charged per entry, includes Quezon City, Caloocan City, Valenzuela City, Malabon City, Navotas City, Meycauayan City and Marilao, Bulacan. On the other hand, the closed system is between Bocaue, Bulacan and Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
For other vehicle classes, the minimal increase within the open system will translate to an additional ₱3 for Class 2 (buses and small commercial trucks), and ₱4 for Class 3 (large trucks/trailers).
In summary, motorists traveling end-to-end between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City, Pampanga will be charged an additional ₱6, ₱14, and ₱16 respectively, depending on their vehicle class.
Despite the reduced road traffic due to the challenging lockdown conditions, the NLEX Corporation has continued to improve and maintain the expressway network to boost motorists’ safety and convenience. NLEX is also undertaking high impact projects such as the 8-kilometer NLEX Connector that will soon bring the daily NLEX commuters to España, Manila via the Harbor Link within the year. Also ongoing is the major upgrade of the 5-kilometer Candaba Viaduct geared towards maintaining the bridge’s long-term serviceability and ensuring the safety and comfort of motorists.
Last year, the company has expanded the NLEX network in the CAMANAVA with the completion of the 2.6-kilometer NLEX Harbor Link-R10 elevated section that features the new Caloocan Interchange with on and off ramps along Grace Park, the new Malabon Exit with an off ramp on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue, and the new Navotas Interchange. Since its opening, over 30,000 vehicles per day, mostly from the logistics industry, have used the new road and benefitted from improved travel times.
